Serge is the Director of REGAL and Professor of Geography at the San Diego State University. He also holds adjunct appointments with the Regional Economics Application Laboratory (REAL) and the Deparment of Geography both at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Serge is an Editor of the International Regional Science Review and he serves on the editorial boards of Geographical Analysis, Papers in Regional Science, and Letters in Spatial and Resource Sciences. A true blue regional scientist, Serge serves on the Board of Directors of the Western Regional Science Association and is a Councillor for the North American Regional Science Council.
His research and teaching interests are in the areas of open source spatial analysis, regional economic inequality and convergence, industrial clustering and networks, and spatial econometrics. His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control, and the Employment Development Department of the State of California among other public agencies and private entitites.
