Bio

Maribel is a second year Master's student in the Geography program at SDSU. She comes from Peru and her interests are in spatial analysis. Maribel’s current research is focused on trying to understand how social indicators, such as education behave throughout time and within regions in Peru. It will evaluate if educational convergence exists at different geographic scales in order to uncover potential spatial patterns that help explain variation in educational performance over time, among regions and within different terrains.

Her work experience in Peru before coming to San Diego has been focused on the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to planning and management matters. Among the projects she has been involved are, the spatial organization of native communities in the Peruvian jungle, managing rural schools through education networks and delimiting service areas of rural schools for the Peruvian ministry of education.
